I'm headed down to DC to visit my top two choices on April 11-12. I figure the back to back visits will keep each school's impression fresh enough to help with a decision. Problem is, my deadlines are April 15th and 18th, for letting them know. Should I schedule earlier trips, or is this fine?

Are you considering only these two programs? Do you think you'll be able to make a decision in the amount of days left? I read here that some schools will try to force your hand earlier than Apr 15th...

Also, are you sure you want back-to-back visits?? They really are tiring (although I have to admit that I am one of those people who need to recharge after a day or so of constant interaction -- maybe you are not like me)

Good luck and have fun! I think that as long as these schools are the ones you are considering, the visiting days are not that late. I am happy I had a good reason to reschedule my last visit (from Apr 8th to Apr 1st), because I want to make my decision by Apr 8th (for the sake of the other school I am considering, and also for wait-listed candidates).

I'm in a similar situation. My deadline is April 15th and I'm visiting a top choice on the 8th. However, I was forced to go this late because a potential advisor wouldn't have been around if I went earlier. I think I'll be fine and I think you will too, but, I would have chosen to go earlier if I could.

I'm in a similar boat. I have it down to two schools (sure, I only started at 3) and am visiting each of them next weekend. I will be driving to DC on April 8, then catching a train to NYC to visit The New School on April 9. Then I catch a train back to DC on the morning of April 10 and go to American's admitted student day on April 11, all before driving home that night. It is going to be exhausting and overwhelming, but I hope it will at least give me a chance to make a more informed decision.

Those dates aren't too late. It's never too late to check things out, unless you go beyond the deadline. It would be advisable to call ahead and set up appointments with as many people in the dept. and the office of financial aid so you aren't just wandering around aimlessly. Ask the dept. to see if there are current grad students you could meet with to show you things or to discuss things that they would be knowledgeable about (housing, school activities, dept. clubs and organizations, etc.).
