Tooma Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Hey! I received an acceptance letter from McGill University, ECE department for a PhD degree starting next fall. I'm having difficulties understanding the funding information in the letter. Would you please check it out: " .... to inform you that you are being offered a graduate assistantship by Professor X for a period of XX months, ...... The stipend for the duration of employment is $XX,XXX each year .... " The letter does not mention anything about the tuition or the admission fees. Does this letter imply that I will have to pay for tuition/admission? I emailed their graduate office but no reply so far. Thank you, Hatem
eklavya Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 The letter does not mention anything about the tuition or the admission fees. Does this letter imply that I will have to pay for tuition/admission? it's hard to say, as the letter doesn't mention anything about tuition remission. but the norm these days (at least in the sciences) is that the tuition is paid for by the department, and on top of that, you are offered stipend. so my guess would be you don't have to pay tuition. however, it can only be confirmed by the department people. i hope you don't have to pay the tuition - it's back breaking! congrats on the acceptance!
