Tinyboss Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I can graduate with honors, but only if I take a year of algebra instead of topology. I'm much more interested in topology, but algebra and analysis are the honors requirement. I'm wondering, just how helpful is it to graduate with honors when applying to a math PhD program?
rising_star Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 If your grades in topology are good, I don't think it matters whether you graduate with honors. But then I'm not in math.
Minnesotan Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 It might also depend on the program. If algebra is essential to your discipline, then you might be better served taking those courses and getting the honors degree. If, on the other hand, topology is more appropriate for your field, then go with that.
ukiitm Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I don't know how the U.S. college system works, but can't you take both?
