yasshole Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I'm curious if anyone's applied to Skowhegan or Whitney this year. I know they aren't degree-granting programs so I wasn't sure if it's appropriate to post them on this site... but since I'm already a grad student in the arts, figured I'd give it a shot!
Ms_B Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I applied for Skowhegan this year. Last year there were over 2,000 applicants and my rejection email was addressed "Dear (blank),". I actually forgot that I had even applied until I just read your post!
curious-cat Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I applied to Skowhegan as well, but also applied to programs in France because I just it there. I got into a Parsons Paris Creative Residency program and CAMAC. Very excited. Going to Parsons Paris.
truthbetold Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 for what it's worth, many people who get in to skowhegan have applied 2,3, 5 times. notification on that goes out around april 6. word is that you need letters from someone who has a connection to / teaches at the whitney program to get in there.
yasshole Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 (edited) Hmm... my rec letters for ISP are from former employers that I've stayed in touch with, who are definitely known to the people who teach at Whitney. Hopefully they're on good terms with most! (same 2 as I put for reference contacts in Skowhegan). But my recommenders don't teach in the ISP themselves. A couple of their faculty are professors i had in undergrad. I guess we'll see... Edited March 31, 2011 by yasshole
Ms_B Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Ha! Rejected from Skowhegan again. Better luck next year.
curious-cat Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 How did you find out? Ha! Rejected from Skowhegan again. Better luck next year.
pocketdictionary Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Just got my rejection email. I was super pissed. It was addressed to "Dear ," — F you, Skowhegan! For a $50 application fee you couldn't even copy and paste my name?!
Alma Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 so depressing...: ( just got an email from Skowhegan informing me that I'm on the wait list and that I might be accepted if there's a spot available by the end of april...yeah right! who would not go to the program if they got in? sucks!
zeeavi Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 truthbetold, how do you know this about the whitney?
firewalkwithme Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 I know someone who only had to apply to Skowhegan once and she was accepted. It's very possible my friends!! for what it's worth, many people who get in to skowhegan have applied 2,3, 5 times. notification on that goes out around april 6. word is that you need letters from someone who has a connection to / teaches at the whitney program to get in there.
solfa Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 ...wondering the same. heard they got twice as many applications as usual due to the e-flux posting this year...from 400 avg to 700 this time... anybody have results from whitney yet?
boxshow Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Rejection letters are in the mail. I heard there aren't interviews this year, people are getting in based on their application. They were contacted last week.
solfa Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 thanks for the info. has anyone actually received a rejection letter/email? I have heard nothing. Applied for critical studies. Assuming rejection, but would like to know for sure. Rejection letters are in the mail. I heard there aren't interviews this year, people are getting in based on their application. They were contacted last week.
Latteaddict Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 There were Whitney ISP interviews this year. They contacted accepted applicants in May.
