MSc versus MRes for future PhD in Cognitive Science

Hi!

I come from a computer science background and have received an admit from the University of Edinburgh or an MSc in Cognitive Science :)

My intention would be to pursue a PhD in the same field once i'm done with my MSc. With that background firmly in place, here are my doubts...

Is the independent project work equivalent to the research work that one does in an MRes degree?

If one wants to pursue a PhD after masters, would a person with an MRes be at an advantage compared to someone with a taught masters degree?

If anyone has information wrt to this in MSc cognitive science at University of Edinburgh, that would also be great icon_smile.gif

Thanks!
