hejduk Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Just interested in seeing how people are possibly killing time this summer. My adjunct teaching for the semester is almost over, and as you'd expect, no teaching opportunities for the summer. How are you all making $$ this summer? I've gotta move cross-country for the Phd program I start this fall, and that moving bill is gonna be pricey.
Matt W Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I will be working as a Research Assistant for a professor at my undergrad institution. It's too bad that I couldn't have included this on my applications.
Mal83 Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I've been doing nothing but working so I'm calling it quits at the end of May so that I can actually plan and prepare for my cross country move. I'll be extra careful about spending because you're right the amount of money it will take to make the move will be pretty high, but I'm so ready for it. I absolutely can't wait to be done with work, it has nothing to do with my field whatsoever and it's literally just a paycheck so to have a good 2 months of not working just to get ready is really exciting.
kyjin Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I wasn't originally planning on working since I was in a program in Japan that wasn't supposed to end till mid-June, but that's been canceled, so I have nothing to do till mid-August. Looks like I'll be waitressing to help pay for my living expenses.
hejduk Posted April 22, 2011 Author Posted April 22, 2011 My list of employment options: Best Buy Apple Store Car Max Wow, this summer will suck hardcore!
jsade Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 My options are whole foods or temping....sigh spunkrag 1
eco_env Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 Searching for local results for "summer" on indeed.com. When the semester is over I'll start searching for jobs categorized as temporary, if I don't find anything by then (I'm thinking it's too early to look for a temporary job now, since I can't start for a few more weeks).
wildeisonmine Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I graduate from undergrad in the beginning of June and will be heading back "home" for two months, hopefully seeing if my old bosses at Panera will hire me on for the summer and let me earn some extra cash doing dishes in the past like I used to do. It was actually a great job--never had to deal with finicky customers, was allowed to read or listen to music when things were slow...
tkovach05 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I've been working full-time in my current position since March 2010, so I will be continuing in my current job until it is time to leave. I'm not exactly sure when my end date will be; it keeps moving up. Right now I'd say July 15, but depending on circumstances it may be earlier. I have enough in savings to cover moving costs and my first month of rent/security deposit, so hopefully I can move sooner than later.
