nycrican2 Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) Just saw that the University of Alabama canceled the rest of the school year and graduation ceremonies because of the tornados in the area. Also, that 3 students died and 80 employees are missing. Here is the article: University of Alabama News article . This is just a horrifying event. I hope that any of the members here whom are only wait-listed at this college will put their immediate problem aside for now and consider how much worst their problem could be. This is because other GradCafe members may be current students, were supposed to graduate on May 7th, may have also been wait-listed and perhaps lost their homes. Please join me in praying for these and all of the other victims of this disaster. Edited April 30, 2011 by nycrican2
Mal83 Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Gosh...not waitlisted there at all, but what a devastating thought. It always hits a little harder when I hear of students dying, like it feels more real than anyone else in any other situation because basically that could have been me too. Morbid I know, but I guess I just feel more of a connection to "the student." It's very unnerving to hear that 80 employees are missing. Let's hope for the best for all 80. It's always sobering to think of a bit of America in despair, it brings out a sense of loss for all of us, all of us who stop to think about it anyway, regardless of whether or not we have any physical connection to anyone or anything there. But I have no doubt that the resilience of the American people and our sense of community will strengthen the ability of those devastated by this awfulness to rebuild and persevere. I feel like this is something that we are great at and makes us stronger in the end. Let's also hope for a swift return to normality for institutions such as University of Alabama.
