Agh, the dreaded wait before IRB approvals. Congratulations! And full steam ahead!!

  3. Just started my 10th out of 13 doctoral level class on Monday. Doing well but overwhelmed with all of the work.

  4. Working on an Ethics midterm assignment. Done with the Aristole part.

  5. Done with teaching my college students until 8-12-2011.

  6. Well, you can plan perhaps to go out to eat and occasionally see a movie. But other than that, you will spend most of your weekends on your computer doing research in the online university library, reading and/or writing. I have not seen the sunshine on the weekends for a long time. Then again, I do work full time as college faculty during the workweek with the exception of the summer months. This has been my experience since I started my doctorate last July. However, it has been worth it so far.
  7. Cancel all leisure and weekend activities with friends and plan vacations between semesters. Especially if you are working and attending school at the same time. By the way, doctoral work involves very little studying as far as memorizing material and parroting it back. This is very low level academic work. Instead, it involves lots of reading in academic research journals, comparing and contrasting, questioning assumptions and using critical thinking skills to create literature reviews of academic journal articles, academic book reviews written through the lens of theoretical frameworks and annotated bibiographies in which journal articles are synthesized, analyzed and critiqued in no less that 150 words each. Well, at least these are some of the assignments that I have gotten so far. The purpose is to prepare the student for the doctoral dissertation/project stage. Hope that this helps.
  8. Praying for the victims of the Alabama disaster.

  9. Just saw that the University of Alabama canceled the rest of the school year and graduation ceremonies because of the tornados in the area. Also, that 3 students died and 80 employees are missing. Here is the article: University of Alabama News article . This is just a horrifying event. I hope that any of the members here whom are only wait-listed at this college will put their immediate problem aside for now and consider how much worst their problem could be. This is because other GradCafe members may be current students, were supposed to graduate on May 7th, may have also been wait-listed and perhaps lost their homes. Please join me in praying for these and all of the other victims of this disaster.

I have called a few times. They just tell me, you are in the queue for admission consideration cannot tell when you will hear since we have no idea what part of the queue the committee is working on. Not really helpful. :-(
