Hello All,

I just it would be nice to establish a forum for the incoming HKS MC/MPA students to exchange tips, questions thoughts etc

I was just wondering if anyone has their Harvard user name / password etc to log into email and submit their ID card photo?

I am really looking forward to meeting you all! I will be coming from London so I am frantically trying to pack and relocate my life up in 6-8 weeks!

Anybody else receive financial aid notification today? Feeling a bit disappointed, but understand that harvard has been rather stingy with funding of late. Have a difficult decision to make...

Yeah, kind of a bummer. So, can I ask what everyone hopes to achieve with this program, if you decide to go? What are your short and long term goals? How will you make the debt (or direct expense) of the program work for you?

I'm thrilled to get in, but I'm also admittedly skeptical about the return. There's no question that it will be a great experience, and make me more marketable/credible, but what do you want from this?

Many of us are already very accomplished in our backgrounds and careers -- what will Harvard do for you?

Hi Policy_Wonk_18

For me, the main reason I want to go to HKS is for the network. As you mentioned there will be many highly accomplished individuals on the program and I would love to learn from them and have them in my network. The program has graduated folks like Ban Ki Moon and Presidents. Plus the Harvard name and faculty is a big plus. I love the HKS ethos and I do think they genuinely look for people who want to do good in the world. I have zero political / government connections etc but I still got in.

There are so many other great schools in the US, some arguably better than HKS, but as a British citizen Harvard is one of the few institutions that is universally heard of and regarded. The British are somewhat ignorant of American schools and vice-versa. I want to go somewhere that is internationally and universally recognized as I tend to work abroad a lot and I am not from the USA.

They are just some of my personal reasons. Opportunities are what you make them. Harvard may not be the best school for everyone but I think it is for me.

I was holding out hope for one or two fellowships but alas nothing. As for the program - I think mentoring and networking are the most positive aspects of the program. The desire is to really immerse myself in this degree and soak up as much as I can before heading back to the real world.

For me, it's been a dream for a long time! I will be giving up a really great job for this; but the (personal) timing is just right! I only applied to Harvard, no where else.

For this type of experience, the costs are more specific than the benefits: the expense, the loss of income and the time away from whatever you were working on. The costs also are more certain that the benefits. That said, the benefits could be immense, depending on what we all make of it. This program, for example, seems to have worked out well for Ban-Ki Moon. Good luck in your deliberations! I am definitely on my way to Cambridge.

Hi all .... I have been accepted too and can't wait to get going. I have wanted to apply for the MCMPA program for about eight years and it finally has worked out and I was accepted. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in July too. As to the benefits, I am past it literally being "mid-career" (I'm 52) but the opportunity for a "sabbatical" from what I've been doing for so long and in the HKS world where I can both soak up the atmosphere and experience with faculty, staff and fellow students -- the network, as someone else said -- and to focus on what I want to do next is just too exciting. I also want to branch out and pursue some related interests that haven't figured in my career yet but are of high interest to me to explore.

Hi I was accepted to princetons mpp (full tuition and 25k stipend) and harvards mcmpa (full tuition fellowship. No stipend so i will have to take out loans to cover living expendes)

Thinking of turning down the free ride to go to hks. Anyone in a similar situation? Your advice would be so helpful. Congrats and thanks!

Hi - does anyone know how many of us will be going to summer school? My offer was conditional on my attending, but just wondering what proportion have to attend also? I registered online for it but have heard nothing since!

We are all required to go through the Summer program. I haven't heard anything either. Was debating contacting the admissions folks but have not done so.

I called the admissions office a few weeks ago as my work wanted to know if Summer program attendance was mandatory (my replacement can only start mid-August). The lady with whom I spoke tracked down a person who advised that all non-Masons have to start on July 20th (which suggests that everyone received a "conditional offer"). No exceptions (i.e. no self-study, no distance learning and no missing classes (even for a couple of days)).

I have been lurking on various fora for a few months now and thought I'd post and say a quick "hello" to my future classmates. I am looking forward to meeting all of you in a few weeks!
