Sollos Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) I'll be graduating in 2013 with a BA Philosophy. My end goal is a PhD Philosophy, but because of my research interests I felt it would be best for me to get a MA Anthropology. The problems that I am seeing are that most MA Anthropology programs want you to have a BA Anthropology, and that I will need funding. The only exception to the former that I have seen is UMass. I can only afford three years right now, so I've had to do one BA in that time and not double major. At best, I'll be able to bypass the prereqs and take two high level anthropology courses before I graduate with my BA. So if I can't get my MA funded here, I'll just have to continue on in philosophy. My interests are specifically economic anthropology, though I realize I may not have the privilege of getting that out of a funded, MA program. Do any programs come to mind that might fit the bill? far_to_go Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Unfortunately, most MA programs in Anthro are unfunded. You might want to check into the MAPSS program at Chicago, though- it's a one-year program, and, while most students are unfunded, I know of a few who have received funding for it. Best of luck in your future work! I'm in an Anthro Ph.D. program with a background in History, and often wish I had done an MA in Philosophy. Let's hear it for interdisciplinary interests!
