Guest guest Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 i guess b/c it's a recruitment fellowship, it isn't eligible for deferral. my program is incredibly underfunded. it's a shame one can't defer the ford in the first year. i was already somewhat penalized, anyway. coming in, i was offered two years of fees paid. when i got the fellowship from the university, the department rescinded the offer to pay my fees. so, once my fellowship runs out, i'll be on my own when it comes to fees, too. what the hell university is this?
Guest guest Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 it's a very specialized UC, if you get what i'm saying. the school itself is a money-maker (and entire departments are funded by biotech and pharma), but my department is one of two non-biomed departments in the entire school (outside of the professional schools), and is NOT a very high priority. it's frustrating. in other departments, students are fully-funded for the duration of their program, and at about 25K/yr. my department does't guarantee any funding. and we don't have any undergrads, so there's not much opportunity to TA, either.
