I was reading through my grad handbook and stumbled upon the line, "All students are required to have taken a statistics course...". I emailed my program to ask what to do, and was told that I could take it during the summer (I'm guessing next summer). My program inquired whether or not I had taken one (which obviously I have not!), so now I'm worried about having a target on my back, or being at some disadvantage.

Have I stuck myself in a bad position with inquiring about the class? Also, anyone have any good books to polish up on this? I'd like to not be seen as a slacker or unable to do research due not having taken the course, and am definitely willing to read-up and do whatever I can to be prepared for my program this fall.

You're meaning that your program requires that each student takes a stats course during their undergraduate education as part of their admission requirements? I wouldn't worry too much if they have already accepted you. They said you could take a class during the summer, so just do that and you should be good to go. My school does stuff like that too. If they feel you have a deficiency that might make coursework in the program difficult for you, then they will have you take a class to make up for it.

Agreed with robot_hamster. If you're really worried about it (which you probably don't need to be), then take a basic stats class at your local community college this summer.

I'm sure your department just means that they expect all of their doctoral students to take a stats course at some point in the course of the program.

Yeah If you're already accepted I'm sure they will just have you take an undergraduate stats course (if they thought you should have had one).
