csierrah Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Hi to all, I've been studying for the GRE for some time now. Now I want to start focusing more and more on being able to work with the time given and to achieve the score I need and want (around 1400). I am turning to practice tests and I have some paper based tests - depsite this I'm not sure how accurate the results they yield are in predicting the actual score. I know that the PP CAT practice tests are the most trusted ones... yet my question is Which practice tests have you guys used? also, are they paper based or CAT? and if they are CAT, how did you get a hold of them? I have two months to finish my preparation prior taking the test. I ope this is enough time. Thanks.
once Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 The Barrons book I bought came with two practice CAT tests on a cd. I haven't tried them yet though.
csierrah Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 Thanks for your reply Once. I wonder if paper based practice tests are reliable compared to the trusted CAT practice tests. I have a bunch of paper based practice tests that are included in the books I'm studying. The problem is that I'm a Mac user and the CDs or even PP won't work on a Mac OS. This is why Im inquiring about paper based tests. I suppose I'll have to get a PC somehow.

But in CAT the questions will be given to u in a way related to your performance in answering them (correctly or not). More practice - better for u - regardless paper based or CAT //

Hi Csierrah, Your inclination is correct that paper based practice tests are less reliable than CAT practice tests. As Angelman said above, paper based test are a good source of practice problems, but they won't give you a good idea of what the real test will be like. Look for practice CATs online that are delivered through the web rather than on CD or through a downloadable program. There are test prep companies, including the company I work for, that offer Mac compatible CAT tests through the web. CAT tests are your best bet. Also, if possible, I would recommend trying to borrow a friend's PC and taking at least one powerprep before the day of your test. Good luck with your studies! Best Regards, Taylor Dearr
csierrah Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 Thanks for the replies. I suppose it would be useful to create a list of teliable GRE CAT practice tests that we can find online. Other than the ones that come with the prep books, which online CAT practice test would you recommend?
