ali8 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Hello, I often see people posting there results, something like "funding: TA 23,000 per 9 months + 3,000 research" Now I was wondering, if I got accepted from a university with funding, does this funding covers my airplane ticket? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but for me, it really matters (the ticket costs at least 1500 USD !!) -Ali
eco_env Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Generally, you can use the stipend for anything you want, including airfare, but you probably won't get it until you've been there for about a month (it varies by school).
ali8 Posted June 5, 2011 Author Posted June 5, 2011 I see. I think, then, that I should prepare at least 1500 USD for the ticket when I, hopefully, got accepted... If anyone knows similar cases / scenarios / details please share.
eklavya Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Sorry if this is a dumb question, but for me, it really matters (the ticket costs at least 1500 USD !!) the straight answer is no. no as in you can't ask the department to pay for the ticket now as your contract hasn't started yet (i assume?). but as eco_env said above, once you have the money in hand, you can use it for anything you want.
