Hey GREAspirant I was going to start a thread on this...Thanks for already starting it!

I am most probably going to take the GRE revised test too! (Hi5?) ;)

I have taken the GRE general test before(last year) and I used Kaplan GRE Premier....although I was not seriously preparing for the GRE..I found it useful for last minute revision.....I am unsure of how the book is for the revised test though...

I am also eager to know how everyone else is preparing.....I'll be going to the book store sometime soon just to check out what they have...I'll keep you posted if I buy anything for the revised General Test.

I did the "old" GRE last November. I'll be taking the revised one sometime in August.

I bought the Princeton Review and Barron's. I started a similar thread with a poll and most people voted that these two are the best.

When I studied for the old GRE, I used Princeton, Barron's, and Kaplan (in addition to exercises and practice exams from a few other books), since all those were available in my college library. But because no books are available for the new GRE in the library yet, I decided I'll buy only the best. I asked and everyone seems to almost agree that I should go for Princeton and/or Barron's.

Some people also are increasingly recommending the Manhattan GRE Study Guide. It's a set of 8 books.

Good luck to all smile.gif

Yeah I'm taking mine in September and just started prepping last week. I'm using Barron's "Essential Words for the GRE" to study up on vocabulary, and I've also started reviewing the math in The Princeton Review's guide to the new one. Couldn't find the Barron's one in this country, so my parents are sending it over. I plan to work through all the math and strategies in those and then do as many practice tests as I can find... That strategy worked when I took the LSAT a few years ago, I just wish there were as many practice tests available for the GRE!

Anyway kind of nice to hear what other people are doing--good luck!

Hey guys!

@sarakeet: I'm taking my GRE in September too!

I just bought myself a copy of the Barron's guide to the New GRE.Also on the same shelf I saw books like:

1)Princeton Reviews Math Workout for the New GRE.

2)Princeton Reviews Verbal Workout for the New GRE.

3)McGraw Hill's New GRE.

4)Manhattan GRE math(but this one was for the old one...and had books 2-8..). I've heard a lot of ppl mention it and am wondering if I should probably order it online or something.

I have'nt bought them yet.I wanted to see if any of you have tried them before(for the old GRE) or currently using it now.

When I actually went to the GRE shelf,I felt like buying all of these books as I'm sooo freaked out by the fact that resources for the New GRE are pretty limited ..lol...But then again these things are pretty expensive.....

Keep the posts comin!

Thanks! :)

Hi,

I am giving GRE on the 30th of August. I guess that's the worst time to give the new GRE exam :(

I have already worked my way through the ETS book but unfortunately the verbal part seemed very difficult to me. I am ok with vocabs but this new GRE has sentence completing and reading comprehension , both of which is confusing to me. Even when I know the exact meaning of the word and placing the word in the sentence makes some sense to it, I find that the answer is wrong because there is some hidden meaning in the sentence which I didnt understand. Dont know how to overcome this problem. Let me know if anybody can throw some light on how to improve this aspect.

I will get hold of the Barrons and Kaplan book in a few days (have ordered them through Amazon) and would keep you posted about how the books are.

Thanks,

Hey New_GRE_RD, I've been using the Princeton Review's book for the new GRE, and I really found their strategies on sentence completion/equivalency to be helpful. Maybe you could check that out!

It definitely looks like everyone is off to a great start. Kudos.

I can't seem to locate the Barron's book in my country so I'll have to find a way somehow to land my hands on it. Have currently yet to pick up any revision books (the GRE revised books are quite scarce!). So Princeton and Barron's the best?

On a related note, I'm planning to take my Revised GRE test sometime in November and the results would be out by the first week of November. Think that might afford me some extra time to study since the results would be out by the end of November even if I take the test in September. What do you guys think?

Thanks.

The best book is the GRE Cliffs Notes with CD-ROM. Not only was the book updated with the new GRE question types, but the math review was excellent. You also may want to check out the Official Guide for great sample practice problems.
