gosset Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 No word from China and I have not been able to reach the EAPSI staff to inquire. Same today. Looks like we are all waiting. I guess the good news is that we can stop worrying about whether everybody else applying for China got an acceptance yet...
Kexin Renlei Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Hmm, somebody's faculty contact in China must be having second thoughts...we should all blame that person
williamtenk Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Hmm, somebody's faculty contact in China must be having second thoughts...we should all blame that person It looks like we're not going to find out this week. When I called and spoke to Carter Kimsey last week, she said we should know by this time. I find it strange that they're unresponsive to phone calls and emails.
lizlove1 Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 I got an email from an EAPSI person (about booking a hotel) at 8:15 last night. So if it makes you any less frustrated with the wait, my guess is the reason they're not responding to calls is that they're just completely swamped. Good luck to everyone!
Tsujiru Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Just checking, has anyone been contacted about how to book our tickets to D.C.? It's less than two weeks out now, and I already made my hotel reservation as recommended. Part of me wants to call and make sure everything is OK, but on the other hand I don't want to bother them when they are already incredibly busy.

Part of me wants to call and make sure everything is OK, but on the other hand I don't want to bother them when they are already incredibly busy. I was wondering the same thing. The email they sent me on Feb. 29 said that within the next two weeks they will send me some information about booking a flight, but I haven't heard anything yet. I already booked the hotel room. I received an email just now from Elena Hillenburg asking me for my banking information so they can set up direct deposit for the stipend. As far as I know, all that needs to happen for this to be official is the JSPS needs to confirm with my host researcher that he can accommodate me.
Tsujiru Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Yeah, I got the same email from Elena Hillenburg. Sounds like we should just be patient and wait for SATO travel to contact us
Phding it Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Same email from Elena about the direct deposit. I think we're ok as long in terms of the flight. They'll get to it. Right now, I know they have contacted my host in Japan. He let me know that Akiko Chiba contacted him already. Now he's looking into housing for me.
gosset Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 China applicants, any word? Nothing. I'm too busy today to try calling again, but as of the end of last week, there was nobody taking calls anyway.
FernandoPR Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Nothing yet. I am confident that we should hear something in less than two weeks
Kexin Renlei Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Nothing yet. I am confident that we should hear something in less than two weeks Considering that the orientation is less than 2 weeks from now, I certainly hope you're right!
gosset Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Tentative offers for China are going out now. You should have already received an email about hotel arrangements (about 10 minutes ago), and the offer emails are rolling out gradually.
Kexin Renlei Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Ah, well, didn't get this one, I guess. Thanks for the info, Gosset, so much better to know than wonder.

Also if you are late in your grad career, there's a post-doc version of this grant called International Research Fellowship Program.
FernandoPR Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I got my tentative offer this evening a little after 6pm. Congrats to anyone else who is also going to China.
gosset Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Congrats Fernando. See you in DC! Where in China are you headed?
FernandoPR Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Dalian. I am assuming you are going to China too? If so, where?
FernandoPR Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Nice. I hope I get to do some tourism there at some point!

solsticephoenix Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Hi! I was wondering if anyone knew what the status is on people that applied for Japan or if anyone knows when final confirmation is going to arrive. I got and accepted my tentative offer, but haven't gotten a final confirmation. I've been sending in all the documents that they had requested.
