Tsujiru Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 OK, for those curious souls the EAPSI program director told me that JSPS is still reviewing applications but that they'll let us know as soon as the tentative offers for EAPSI Japan are confirmed.
tropicaltrees Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Has anyone heard from Singapore? I thought I would hear by now, so I feel like it's a bad sign that I haven't... Thanks!
stargazer7891 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I got a tentative offer for Australia on 2/17.
kaylap Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 So should we assume that if we didn't get an offer yet, we'll only get one at this point if someone declines their award? Waiting is the worst :(
kirbyfloss Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Has anyone heard from Korea yet? Last year I was told that I was one of three alternates for Singapore so I guess I had barely missed the cut. In the end I didn't get to go Have people gotten official rejection letters in the past?
tropicaltrees Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Hi All! So I couldn't take the anticipation anymore and finally called NSF. They said that just because you haven't heard anything doesn't mean you won't get an offer. It depends on what country you applied to. I applied to Singapore, and they said that they have not even decided Singapore yet/made any offers. They said they will *hopefully* have finished Singapore by the end of NEXT week, but that we should keep the days for orientation open on our calendars still.... Hope this is helpful! orangutanne Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 @tropicaltrees - Thanks! That at least makes me feel a little less angsty. Keep me posted if you hear anything else from Singapore and good luck! Hopefully we'll all be seeing each other in DC at the orientation!
rainchild421 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I'm waiting to hear about Australia too! It would be nice to know how long the deadline for notification has been extended ...
jameskip Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I'm still waiting to hear about Japan. It's now officially the last day of February, so maybe we will be put out of our misery today.
Admiral Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Guys, I just called them and they gave me an answer on Korea. I think she said that she is also done with Taiwan. I hope you hear good news
williamtenk Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Guys, I just called them and they gave me an answer on Korea. I think she said that she is also done with Taiwan. I hope you hear good news Thanks for the information, Admiral. Did they seem receptive to your call? Do you think it would be appropriate for other people to call?
Admiral Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Thanks for the information, Admiral. Did they seem receptive to your call? Do you think it would be appropriate for other people to call? Yes. I think so. Actually I just asked when they are going to announce the result. She then asked my name and told me that I didn't get the fellowship So yes I think she was very helpful.
gosset Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 For China applicants: I just called to ask about China specifically, and they confirmed that there have been NO China announcements yet, so there is no reason to panic yet. They're finishing up the last of the applications now, but they have to wait for some other steps before official offers are made. I guess we should get the "tentative offers" soon, but it sounds like all the announcements for China will come out at once in the near future. brassrat 1
rainchild421 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Just called about Australia. If you haven't heard yet, then you're not being offered a fellowship.
kirbyfloss Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I just called Carter Kimsey about Korea - she was very nice and looked me up, and told me I got a tentative offer!! She said she's running a bit behind but is trying to get tentative offers out in the next day or so. But these are again those tentative offers that have to be approved by the other side still before they become official.
dirac1991 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Yesterday morning (2/29) they emailed me with instructions to make hotel reservations for the Pre-Departure Orientation in Washington DC. Has anyone else gotten this?
gosset Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) Yesterday morning (2/29) they emailed me with instructions to make hotel reservations for the Pre-Departure Orientation in Washington DC. Has anyone else gotten this? Some countries have been announced and some have not. Check the previous pages (1 and 2) to see what people have said about this. Here's the roundup so far: China: No announcements yet Singapore: No announcements yet Japan and Korea: Some announcements, possibly not concluded Australia: Closed - If you didn't get one yet, you probably won't. New Zealand: Closed - If you didn't get one yet, you won't. I'll edit this if anybody wants to update/correct. Edited March 1, 2012 by gosset
kaylap Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I just called Carter to ask about New Zealand and she said that if you haven't received an email, you didn't get an offer. She also said it was highly unlikely that anyone would turn down their offer so you could have a spot lol. Formal rejections will be on their way soon
stargazer7891 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Yesterday morning (2/29) they emailed me with instructions to make hotel reservations for the Pre-Departure Orientation in Washington DC. Has anyone else gotten this? I got that email as well and made the hotel reservations already.
PhDiddy Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Thanks for the update gosset! That is a very helpful post.
dirac1991 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I got that email as well and made the hotel reservations already. Me too. Does anyone know how likely it is to get final acceptance given the fact that we've made it this far?
emie Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 For New Zealand, the final acceptances were approved by RSNZ on Tuesday. I would guess that if you have a tenative acceptance, it's almost certain that you will have a final acceptance for other countries.
