IRunIntoThings Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Hi, I'm still trying to get the hang of the Issue essay for the GRE that I'm taking tomorrow. Is there a good place that I can just read a bunch of these essays? Thank you.
newms Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 (edited) Here's ETS' samples of essays and the scores that they received: http://www.ets.org/g...ow/issue/essays and here's a couple other links to some sample essays. A good rule of thumb, I think, is to pick one side of the issue and use about 2 paragraphs to present 2 or 3 points in support of your position. Then use another paragraph or two to show why some people might support the other position, but show why your position is better. Add your introduction and conclusion and you have your essay. Good luck! Edited July 18, 2011 by newms
IRunIntoThings Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 I just took my analytical writing GRE recently, and it went pretty smoothly. I think I'm a decent writer, but don't write very well under pressure. That said, the time allocated wasn't too bad, though I panicked a bit near the end when I realized my essays weren't as good as I was hoping. I found a good Web site that has an essay for literally every single prompt that you could possibly be writing about tomorrow. Check out the Issue essays at http://www.testpreppractice.net/GRE/awa-samples/gre-issue-essay.html and the Argument essays at http://www.testpreppractice.net/GRE/awa-samples/gre-issue-essay.html. The essays aren't very well-written, but you can get some logic-related ideas from them. Hope this helps!
