mechengr2000 Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 (edited) Is it possible to obtain second fellowships from NSF/NDSEG/DOE/NASA etc for further support? For example, if you had three years of support from agency A, after that ends are you eligible to apply for support to agency B? I am currently pursuing MA and PhD concurrently in different departments, and my PhD advisor has stated he will not give financial support for my MA. Edited July 20, 2011 by mechengr2000
Eigen Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 It depends on the agency, from what I understand- some of them allow multiple chances for support and some don't- you'd have to check each program and it's specific funding guidelines, I don't think there are any "general" rules.
ktel Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 You'll want to check any restrictions for all the funding you apply to. In Canada, for example, you're only eligible for 1 year of NSERC funding for your Master's. Several scholarships I've seen specify you can't hold it and NSERC at the same time, but don't mention anything about being ineligible if you previously held NSERC. One scholarship I saw does specify the maximum number of years you can hold certain types of awards to be eligible. I'm now looking into scholarships to apply to for my 2nd year of my Master's and have to read the fine print to make sure I can get as much money as possible.
