Gwiz Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 After poring through this forum and many other public health related forums, I've read a lot of statistics about public health schools and applicants, but something that has really intrigue me is the lack of posts on the reasons why everyone here are applying to public health be it epidemiology or behavior science or health policy. I am a senior student and I plan to apply for an MPH for the fall 2012 round. I am still in my research phase and would appreciate anyone's thoughts on matter. If you wouldn't mind telling me why you've decided to enter public health instead of pursuing the multitude of other options available. Thank you in advance for you time!
4urhealth Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 hi there. I have noticed this forum is a little empty, so I'll go ahead and comment. I originally really wanted to pursue a global/international health mph, but after extensive research on what kind of opportunities exist in public health, I decided to go with epidemiology as my concentration. a lot of positions really want you to have some computer software and quatitative analysis skills, even in the various other disciplines, so I though epidemiology would allow me to markey myself in any aspect of public health, really. The tangible quantitative and analytical skills will help you in any area of discipline within public health. In my opinion, epidemiology is probably the most practical and allows for flexibility in what you want kind of research or applied health projects you may want to work on in the future. hope this was somewhat helpful
