Upenn Sociology does not have a mandatory req. to submit writing sample, but they mention its preferred. Is it ok if I do not submit the writing sample ??? Thanks a ton!! It's likely that somebody else will apply to the program with your numbers (GPA, GRE, etc.) and *with* a writing sample. If it's you or them competing for a spot, you may lose out. The only circumstance in which I wouldn't send a writing sample is if you feel like your sample is so weak that you'd rather compete without it, even though other candidates will be sending them.
