chillynne Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Hi all, I'm applying to English Ph.D programs, so I took the GRE General this summer and the Subject Test in October. For some reason, ETS screwed up and has me as two different files so that when I try to send additional score reports online, I have two different accounts. Their website says to call and report if this is the case. I did that a couple weeks ago and was told it would take 5-7 business days to combine the files (who knows why that should take more than 20 minutes...). I called again last week and they said it would be another couple days, but still nothing, and I'm starting to panic because most of my deadlines have already passed (the rest of my apps are complete, though). I'm going to call again today and just harass them until they send out reports, but do you think it's worthwhile for me to scan my copy of my scores and just email them to the English programs with an explanatory note, or would that just be obnoxious? Thanks!
limeinthecoconut Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I'm not sure if it seems obnoxious, but I'd definitely send in a scanned copy if I found myself in your situation. Given that this is probably not the first time ETS screwed up, I think the schools will understand, and your scanned copy should suffice, until ETS has things sorted out. Just my two cents' worth.
dowjonesindustrial Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Most admissions secretaries I've spoken with have suggested that they are most lenient with GRE scores arriving late (as compared to your other materials). I don't think, however, that sending a scanned copy can hurt (it's what I would do).
chillynne Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and sent scanned copies and most places were pretty gracious about it. Still not too happy with ETS, needless to say.
ampersand Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Still not too happy with ETS, needless to say. Who is?
sleepingdogmatist Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 One would really think that if you pay $20 for somebody to mail a single sheet of paper to someone--and over the course of about 3 weeks--that they'd do it correctly and without issue. I haven't had any ETS snafus (yet), but I would be furious if I did given how much the entire thing costs. Not that it's particularly relevant to this discussion, but I've spent $300 on GRE score reports alone for my applications this year.
