sabrinamichelle Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 I scored 580-680 V, 590-690 Q. I was a little disappointed but overall I was more calm than I expected to be. For some reason I kept coming close to running out of time and having to rush toward the end, which I did not experience in timed practice tests. The test was a balance between really easy questions and very difficult questions. I found Manhattan GRE to be the most accurate practice test. Hope that helps! I myself am confused about the 100 point range. Are you supposed to guess conservatively and go for the bottom numbers or shoot toward the middle? bluejay16 1
bluejay16 Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 We were just discussing the new score ranges in the other thread about GRE percentiles. I guess you'll just have to wait until November to get the official score/percentiles. I think the score range is just supposed to help you have an idea of how well you did in comparison to the previous GRE and help you know if you can still apply to your desired grad programs based on the old GRE's scores. Thanks for sharing though. I've been curious which study material would most reflect the new GRE. How was the quantitative section by the way? I'm most wary of acing that portion.
hermia11 Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 I just took it today too! And equally as stumped by the score ranges. I kinda think 100 points do make a difference... But I'm very curious how those ranges translate to the new scoring system. As for the quantitative, by all means make the ETS-issed math review packet your best friend. It's there on ETS's GRE site. As long as you know how to do basic functions (equations, inequalities, area/perimeter/etc. of shapes, data interpretation and percentages, blah blah) you should be ok. I'm not a math person at all and should have studied far harder than I did. I gave up reading through that ETS math review when I got to standard deviation. Guess what the first question was on my quantitative section today? Wahhh! bluejay16 1
sabrinamichelle Posted August 28, 2011 Author Posted August 28, 2011 i expected the quantitative section to be a lot harder than it was. but that doesn't mean there were no hard questions. there were some that i looked at and said i have absolutely no idea how to solve this and just guessed and moved on to save time. but i was surprised at how easy some were... like just asking the mean and such.
Pencilnerd Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 The test is still adaptive, but between sections rather than between questions. In other words your second quant section will be easier or harder depending on how you did on the first one. Even so, the difficulty is mixed within the section which threw me for a loop when I took it- on one of my quant sections the first question was by far the hardest one on the section. bluejay16 1
