I am currently planning on applying to a Master Degree in Engineer Management in the U.S.

Reading the forums I noticed that everyone is concerned about their research experience before applying to a Graduate School.

I just graduate from a University in Venezuela, top of my class, but I do not have any research experience (nor do I plan to have any) and for what I read in the Programs I am applying to there is no need for it.

I will apply to:

- Berkeley: Engineering and Project Management (MEng)

- Columbia: Construction Management (MS)

- Illinois> Construction Management (MS)

- USC: Construction Management (MS)

- Cornell: Master in Engineering Management (MEM)

- DUKE: Master in Engineering Management (MEM)

Also, I wanted to ask: what is considered research? I did a thesis for my BS and I have done some Projects in my working experience but I do not know if they apply as actual research....

Thanks for the help!

Since you're doing a Master's in Engineering Management, what you have read is correct. These programs are largely course and/or project based, and significant research experience is not expected.

It depends on the nature of your thesis or projects. Research is pretty broad, so they could or could not qualify as "research" depending on what you did.

So I should mention them in my Personal History and SOP and they would evaluate if they consider it as research, I just wanted to be sure if I should put the word "research" on it
