orst11 Posted September 4, 2011 Share Posted September 4, 2011 Like dntw8up mentions ETS does give samples for each possible score. You will tend to notice that typically you want a substantive essay but formatting, spelling, grammar and such are still important. For instance, if you just wrote one huge paragraph with an array of ideas you typically wouldn't score higher than 3 or 4 if that, but if the same amount of writing was formatted correctly you could expect a higher score.
