So I got into Columbia's MSW program last year but deffered my admission for a year due to family problems. Now it looks like my family is moving to Portland so I am looking not going to Columbia and applying to Portland State's MSW program and wondering what my chances are, since I feel they don't accept as many people as Columbia does. Here are my stat's...

3.67 GPA in Elementary Education/TESOL (K-6) graduated in dec 2010.

2 extremely challenging summers working for a outdoor camp for ADD/ADHD/Learning Disabled children from eight to 21 years old. The first summer I was a field counselor and the second I was a course director.

Prior military (5 years) as a Flight Engineer on a Combat Air Crew.

Vice President of my colleges Florida Reading Association Chapter

1 year volunteer time at a museum

I really want to work with Veterans, most likely with at VA clinic or Hospital, so that is something I stress heavily in my Columbia essays, since I have a military background.

My only doubt about getting in is that my current job that I am working this fall and spring has nothing to do with social work, its just a job that pays the bills. I will be returning as a course director again through for the summer camp. Any thoughts?

this posting is old, I realize, but i'm working to apply for PSU currently and wanted to know what your thoughts were on the program (assuming you were admitted) and if you weren't, did they tell you why?
