SVA illustration as visual essays writing sample *help!

Hello guys!

I'm graduated from other department (architecture) and have no idea what kind of subject would appropriate to write and what are they looking for from writing samples? Does it have to be academic writing?

here is what they required

"Applicants are also required to submit a typed writing sample between 500 and 1,000 words long. Content is at the discretion of the applicant."
