Engingeering PHD: MIU or FIU

Hi all,

I need help deciding between Michigan Technological Univ. and Florida International U. I know this may not be a problem for some others.

A little about two universities:

MIU: the program ranks higher than FIU. Four years Research Assistantship (The professor just has a project for a company). The professor has more than 5 phd students.

FIU: The professor is my MS program advisor's friend. He doesn't have a project available now.

Two years Graduate Assistantship by Department of Engineering and two years Research Assistantship by professor. He said he would have a project later. I will be his only phd student if I attend FIU.

by the way, with the recommendation of my current advisor he even promised to admitted me before I take GRE test.

Which school should I attend?
