I am applying to few IVY league schools (HYP and col.) along with Stanford. My objective is to obtain a PhD, my research area can fall under CS or CE. I received a full scholarship for my potential PhD and I need to get into one of the schools I am applying to. My background is a dual major in CE and CS from a top 10 engineering school, 3 years as a software engineer, and I am currently doing my master's in CS at a top 20 school.. My question is whether it is easier to get into CS or CE at those schools..

Thanks

Erm Why are you attaining a PhD? Don't mean to sound rude but you don't seem to have any idea whatsoever of why you want a PhD. It isn't worth the commitment if you haven't even selected an area of interest that too after 6 years of computer science education from top universities. Stop and think of why you want to apply for further education.

I'm also curious about this. I'm not looking for the "easy way out," but faculty often do hold joint appointments in CE, CS, and/or EE. It'd be interesting to know the differences in acceptance rates between these closely related departments. If you are interested in a particular faculty member who has a joint appointment, then you can do the same research and similar coursework in any of these departments. It's worth knowing which is the easiest "door" into such an opportunity.
