RWBG Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 So I probably won't do this, as it seems a bit unusual, but has anyone ever submitted two shorter papers as a writing sample instead of one larger one? I'm thinking of this especially in relation to NYU's writing sample, which asks for something of length "30-50 pages." I figure that if submitting two papers were a viable option, I could include two papers that complement each other in terms of what they signal about my writing/scholarship capacities. Any thoughts?
Penelope Higgins Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Don't do this. 30-ish pages is the size of a published article or a dissertation chapter; we want to know if you can produce something of that size/scope/depth.
twenty-twelve Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Related question: Do the pol sci adcomms expect that writing samples all be submitted in a double-spaced manuscript format, Chicago style?
gradcafe26 Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 (edited) 2012,I'm wondering about the same question. For SOP, they all want 2 pages single spaced, but I'm not sure about writing sample. Any citing format should be ok, as long as it's consistent. Edited November 16, 2011 by gradcafe26
justanotherperson Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Reviving an old thread here. Would it be a big no-no if I submit a writing sample that is much shorter than 30-50 pages? Would it automatically disqualify me or something? Asking because my writing sample is only 15 pages long. Thanks in advance!
