Timshel Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 So, most of the schools I am applying to do not require the subject scores. And, as I predicted, I did terrible, and I do not want the schools who don't require it to see my score. So, since they don't require it, on the application, I can just leave that part blank, right? When I requested what scores I want sent, it allowed me to choose just general, so I know they won't be sent the scores, so it's okay to not put the score on the application, too, right?
ecritdansleau Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) If they don't require it, I see no reason as to why you would be obligated to fill that part of the application out. Unless both A.)they recommend (but don't require) you take the subject test AND B.) you have an extremely high score, I wouldn't worry about it. In fact, if a department doesn't require it, that's one indicator that they don't perceive the test to be very useful, in which case they might not even care if you did have a high score. Although I haven't yet gotten my score back for the Nov test, I don't think it's likely that I'll be filling in that information for the departments that don't require it. Timshel Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 Thanks. 8 out of the 10 schools specifically say they do not require the subject test, and my score was embarrassingly bad, so I really don't want to give them my score if I don't have to.
Grunty DaGnome Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 When I ordered my GRE scores to be sent on, they gave me a chance to select GRE and Subject scores separately. You can't select one GRE score without sending all valid years, but you don't have to select the Subject Scores. Just be sure to read the boxes you're clicking very carefully.
Timshel Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 Yeah, I knew I could just send the general scores, but I wasn't sure what i should do for the box on the application. I guess I should just leave it blank, right?
Grunty DaGnome Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 If they're not required, they you don't need to report them. I wish I could tell you exactly how low your score has to be before it hurts instead of helps your application. 80th percentile? I'd probably report it. 60th? Probably too low to help. 70s? Who knows.
Timshel Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 Well, I'm too embarrassed to admit how low, but I can tell you that it's low enough to hurt me. I do not plan on sending those scores at all, but I just wanted to make sure it was okay to leave that space blank on the application.
