sosnow Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) Oh my... I took the GRE for the first time before deadline and there is no time to actually retake it. I am so frustrated as I scored v= 143, q=148. I had two weeks to study with KAPLAN the GRE prep and it really didn't help on the QUANT section I think... I knew Verbal wouldn't be good because there was no way I could have ever memorized all those vocabs. I translated score to old GRE and its about 950- 1000 I don't know my WRITING score yet but I am just going to try what I can with statement letter and portfolio as I'm applying for architecture. Is anybody in the same situation? I am frustrated that I am actually thinking of giving up. I've never did so horrible on an exam. I think the timing issue just freaked me out... I think PowerPrep would've helped but the CD arrived 2 days before the test and I have mac so couldn't even run it anyhow. I hope the schools don't just cut me off before even reading my Perso statement and looking over my portfolio. I feel so worried and is trying but is thinking of falling back to Canadian grad school that I have already been accepted.... Any advice and comment... or experience story would help. Im so freaked out from this experience.... Edited November 28, 2011 by sosnow
NinjaMermaid Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Don't give up! You will never know unless you try. What are your other credentials? Some schools weigh GRE's lower on their acceptance formulas, some don't even care what your GRE score is, and some only use it in funding formulas. Also, think about the fact that these GRE's are brand new - that may work in your favor. I understand your dispair but you cannot throw in the towel. Contact some possible advisors and build bridges. Work to your strengths! sosnow 1
sosnow Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 @NinjaMermaid/ Thanks you so much! Well Im really worried because Im only applying two schools that are of big names: Cornell and Columbia. I have worked in architecture firms that are quite big; 3 years experience in total and have recommendation letters from a prof that is doing well in the US. Other then that I am just really hoping my portfolio and statement of purpose would do well for them. My GPA is just 3.0/4.0 in US system but I did go to a good school in Canada.... but really I don't think the US ppl know or care about Canadians and their schools... YOU are totally right though, I'll try and see! that's the only i'll ever know! Thanks for reminding me... I am still freaking out but I just needed someone to tell me that.
abbasmh10 Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 @sosnow Well, I attended the test this morning, and didnt do well either. Its not a test that can measure ur intellectual abilities, in fact,it was more like an endurence test, HOW LONG CAN U STICK UR BACK ON THT CHAIR AND SOLVE SOME COMPREHENSION, COMPLETE SENTENCES..ETC! but anyway, thats what they need in universities, and all we can do is to give it to them...my score was V 141,Q 157. I tried to interpret this score on the old GRE, and it was 1060. Since I came back home, i did nothing but trying to consolate by so many things like 1060 for new gre is not as bad as 1060 for old gre...like entering some forums, wondering how accurate the prelim score. will it change in the official score.... lots of things in fact. I came to a point... there is no good score recommendation suggested so far. I wont calm till i get some optimistic news concerning scores evaluation. and I will keep in touch with u in case i had further info
