top university in the US , or top university in the field?

when applying to master in sociology should we consider the top programs in sociology field .. some of the program could be ranked within top 20 while the university is the 80'th in US in general .. so what do u think?

I am sure as you have searched department faculties where you see the PhDs are coming from and what school's alumni get jobs. That can give you an idea of what schools place people into faculty positions. I think you see more well ranked departments along wtih a smattering of schools with great reputations but departments ranked lower than their overall reputation.

Personally I applied to schools that I love and when I hopefully get some yes will weigh funding offer and fit as my top two priorities.

I already can get funding from my country beside after graduation i will go back to my country to work there .. so what matter to me most the other stuff
