lpiloto Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 As I anxiously await decisions from the schools to which I applied, I can't help but consider (often dwell on) the possibility that I won't get into any of the PhD programs. What are some of backup plans you guys can recommend? Should I look into post-bacc programs (is it too late to apply for them anyways? Do I have to pay for them or is their financial aid available?) Do I apply for research assistant positions in order to make my application better for next year, if necessary? Should I look at getting a job? Thanks in advance!
orangeMan Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 I will move back in with my parents and do an admin job.
litjust Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 I can't recommend a back up plan for you because I do not know much about your current situation. Although, I think you have to consider all the things you are willing and able to do in order to develop a solid plan. If I don't get accepted, my plan is to continue teaching full-time and make my application stronger for 2013.
rachaelskaya Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 I'm applying to English PhD programs and very worried about not getting in anywhere as well! I'm teaching abroad now and have considered spending another year overseas, teaching and hopefully doing some language studies to improve my application. It's just too bad that by the time we are sure we won't get in anywhere it's too late in the year to take another class or otherwise improve our applications much. Except for the SOP and writing samples, which sound like they might be the most important part of the application for English anyway...
