youarethemoon Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Just reread through my writing sample and noticed three major typos. Damn. It. To. All. Hell. How did I miss three???!!! Sigh. There go my chances for being taken seriously.
bdon19 Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Just reread through my writing sample and noticed three major typos. Damn. It. To. All. Hell. How did I miss three???!!! Sigh. There go my chances for being taken seriously. Don't worry, I'm right here with you. Honestly, I wouldn't worry so much. I freaked out when I found typos in my first few submissions. I'm sure just about everyone will have missed something in their writing samples. These people are going to be reading so many samples their eyes probably won't even register them, anyway! Chin up, friend! We're all in this together! Two Espressos 1
MrBrooklyn Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I missed one in my SOP and one in my writing sample and I reread each one about five thousand times. (And everyone else who read them missed them as well, so bdon19 is probably right.)
Hegel's Bagels Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I feel you...I reread my writing sample a few days after I submitted it to my first two apps and I realized that my final sentence was missing a word (how did that happen?). My final sentence! Aghhhhh. So if adcoms happen to only read my intro and conclusion....
0000000000AAA Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I found a dropped word that had gone to two schools (that made the sentence ungrammatical). I figure: First, they may not notice. There's a good chance they are skimming and tired. Second, if they do notice, they may shrug and not care too much. It probably will be cool.
youarethemoon Posted December 20, 2011 Author Posted December 20, 2011 I'm glad I am not the only one who has some regrets regarding editing. I have two successive sentences in which my syntax is appalling, and I figure that though it will certainly raise some eyebrows, the mixed structure isn't unforgivable--it looks like I was going in one direction with the sentences, changed my mind about wording, and things ended up being left a bit muddled. At least I caught a sentence that had a double negative before submitting the sample; THAT would have been embarrassing.
ComeBackZinc Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 It happens to everybody. Relax. I know I had typos in my successful apps, and I know many of my peers did, too.
