Theasaurus Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 I know this topic has been touched on before throughout the forum, but I was wondering if anyone had any insight into late transcripts for a particular school: The University of Georgia. Story is, I have one late transcript for a couple community college classes I took last year that is now over a week late. These aren't classes I consider necessary, just enriching evening classes to satisfy some boredom. I ordered it back in October, but apparently, they sent it to the undergrad admission office instead of the grad office by mistake. I just reordered it today and also sent an email requesting the undgrad office move it over the grad office, as well as another email to the department explaining what happened. However, it was due Jan. 3rd. Has anyone had a similar experience, especially with UGA? Are programs more lenient with transcripts considered less vital (i.e. a 2 course community college transcript) than say my major undergrad transcript (which has been processed)? Any insight would be helpful. Good news or bad would be helpful, but I'd reallly prefer some good news right now. Program is Comm Sciences and Disorders: Speech Pathology btw. Thanks all!!
michael_scott_14 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I'm in the same boat - I didn't realize the study abroad transcripts, and ones from summer courses I took in high school, also needed to be sent. With the holidays, processing delays, and my own oversight they clock in at 5.5 weeks late. Yowza. I'm worried, but trying not to panic. I'm not sure if schools want to process additional documents from you if they have no intention of reviewing it or outrightly rejecting you. It seems a bit excessive. But perhaps that's just me trying to talk myself off the ledge.
Tyler Durden Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that one need only send transcripts from summer coursework and terms of study abroad if these credits were applied toward a degree received. I have elected to send additional transcripts as evidence of foreign-language study through a non-degree, university extension program, but I believe this was optional.
michael_scott_14 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I think it depends on the school. For me, I didn't think about it because my study abroad credits and summer credits were listed on my undergraduate transcript - credits towards my degree but not to fulfill major reqs or anything like that. The grades were not listed on that transcript though, and that's where the issue was - I had to frantically find copies of my grades/have my alma mater certify them for me in a pinch, and wrestle the grades from what amounted to summer camp in high school to have my file marked "complete." I truly thought it was a clerical error on their end until the horror sunk in that I had made a mistake. I am truly hoping that the hard deadline listed applies to materials I submitted myself and that the schools wouldn't tease me by saying they'll add documents to my file with no intention of reviewing them. I'm rather freaked out, but I'm not sure there's anything left to do...it would be devastating to be rejected over study abroad transcripts.

I share your concern as I also have an application pending with a late document. Sadly, it would seem (from what I have read elsewhere on this forum), that we are not likely to ever find out if any rejections were due to an incomplete file or a more substantive perceived lack of qualifications. What an excrutiating process...
michael_scott_14 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Well this is encouraging - I called the school I'm most invested in that was late, and asked if even though my file is now complete if it would be junked due to the lateness. She said while she was unsure of the hard deadline, the fact that they're still accepting docs meant that my application would definitely be reviewed and not to worry. This particular uni is rather competitive, so what a relief! I hope the same is true for everyone!
Theasaurus Posted January 25, 2012 Author Posted January 25, 2012 I had encouraging news as well--- I went ahead and emailed the department and the graduate school office explaining the situation and they moved that transcript from being "incomplete and required" to "incomplete and not required". I explained that those classes did not count towards my degree. My application is now listed as in review by the department and has the the word complete listed at the top of the status portal. Oh...how I love that word right now. I had originally intended to do the same as Durden and submit those courses as evidence of language study to boost my application and resume (some ASL knowledege is typically favorable for my program). I guess Georgia will just have to do without that transcript, but at least my application money hasn't been wasted and I'll still get a chance to be reviewed! So I guess what I'm trying to say is don't hestitate to contact your future department to try and clarify any situation you may have. Having multiple missing items is one thing, but one minor hiccup shouldn't be a big deal. Don't be afraid to send a few emails or make a phone call.
