  1. Reading Buzzfeed. Not sure how many pics of animal photobombs I can look at all day but apparently it's quite a few. You guys are awesome.
  2. Well, I did it. I had a meeting with my boss and put in my notice of resignation today. It felt just as good as I thought it would. In fact, it felt better than just good; it was one of the best ******* days I've had in a long time. Can't wait until June 20th.
  3. I've also signed up for a fun course. I have a full course load already (15 hours) but I went ahead and signed up for a 1 hour distance running course. It's nice to look at my schedule and see something other than the same prefix before every course #. It will also be nice to have a class somewhere else on campus. All of mine take place in the exact same building and on the same floor. I think it's a good idea to sign up, but maybe see if you can take it pass/fail.
  4. I just wanted to get a conversation going here and see if anyone was banging their heads against a wall as much as I am at this exact moment. I'm sitting here at my office computer, counting down the last few weeks until I quit my full-time office job. It's not too shabby of a job really, but with the excitement and change that's coming with grad school, it's making work seem like a prison and grad school is my parole. I've been completely tuned out since I started hearing back from schools, and now that it's all very official and very real, my work personality has shifted from being Little Miss Motivation to someone very reminiscent of Peter Gibbons. I'm not going to lie, it feels kinda awesome. School starts August 27 with a week before devoted to various orientations. My lease in Florida runs out at the end of July. I was thinking June 15th would be my last day. That leaves me a month and half to pack, finish any hobbies, projects, etc., and mentally prepare myself for grad school. Friends and loved ones keep telling me to wait it out until at least mid-July to save as much as I possibly can. I have some savings already, wayyy more than enough to pad me for that last month + half, but on my measly salary, I couldn't imagine one more month of work really making much of a difference. I'd much rather save my sanity before life gets crazy again. Curious as to when others are leaving their full-time jobs and how they're keeping up motivation at work.
  5. I know! It does feel so mean for whatever weird reason. I turned down St. Cloud last week and waited until I was officially in NAU's system (as of today) to turn down ETSU which was my second choice. It felt like I was breaking up with someone because I really was interested in those two schools and felt they had so much to offer. But congrats on your decision! If you get off Marquette's waitlist, what do you think you'll end up doing? I'm not sure what I would do if I was on my #1s waitlist and there was the prospect of getting in. Tough decision but best of luck in any circumstance.
  6. I know what you mean when you say it feels like something is missing! I'm not sure what to do with myself. Did NAU confirm receipt of your acceptance notification yet? I sent mine on Monday through the mail and wanted to see if they emailed or called you confirming they received it. I know they'll send a packet after April 15th, but the last thing I want is for it to get lost in the mail! I think if I haven't heard from them, I'll just send an email next week making sure they have it. I also wanted to make sure we didn't need to send a deposit. I looked and looked again and didn't see anything about a fee we had to pay. Is this correct? Can't wait to start!!!
  7. Hi! Congrats! I will also be attending NAU this Fall for Speech Pathology. I just mailed my confirmation on Monday. I am also out-of-state and know I will be living off campus because I have a dog. Are you doing the traditional track or leveler track? I'm trying to find some leveler people because I have yet to come across anyone doing that program. My question for anyone familiar with the Flagstaff concerns public transporation. Is it accessible in most areas around the city? I want to avoid complexes near the university but I also want to avoid paying extra for a parking pass. Is it bike friendly? If so, are there campus and city bus options during heavy snow periods when biking is not an option?
  8. Thank you for the input! NAU is my first choice in terms of the actual school and reputation, but the only think holding me back is cost. It's the most expensive program of the three and I've been searching around on Craigslist, Hotpads, etc. and the cost of living is wayyyy more than I'm used to. St. Cloud has the cheapest tuition of all three and is insanely affordable in regards to housing. Johnson City is notoriously cheap on living cost too. It's actually been ranked the 15th most affordable place to live in the US. In terms of culture, Flagstaff suits me very well with the array of outdoor activities, but I also grew up playing Bluegrass fiddle and banjo, so East Tennessee is like a cultural Mecca for me. I've been dying for the opportunity to move to that area since I was 7. I have until April 15th for all the schools, so I'm going to spend the next few days making spreadsheets on cost, etc. and having intense conversations with anyone who will listen. As for your dilemma, that is a tough one. In state tuition at NAU would be enticing but also the opportunity to have an assistantship and scholarship provided means U.Wyoming wants you pretty bad. I personally love Wyoming (I love less populated areas and breathtaking scenery) and wanted to apply there myself. I was discouraged because they didn't offer a 3 year program. Are you wanting to leave Arizona and try a new area?
  9. Well, the process is officially over for me. What a relief! Is anyone else have helluva time making a decision? I thought I had it mostly figured out until East Tennessee called (then emailed) this morning and threw a wrench in the entire plan. Not that I'm complaining(!), but it's making the decision that much more difficult. If anyone can offer their personal insight or experience into NAU, ETSU and St. Cloud, any little bit would help.
  10. Sorry to hear about this Sunny Wade You still have one left to hear from and I hope for the best.. The only school I can think of off the top of my head that offers Spring admission is UCF. I think deadlines are Oct. 1st or sometime around there. I didn't get in there for Summer admission and I have okay #s, but I also don't have the prereqs and little to no experience in the field. I think #s aren't quite as important there, so having a background in CSD will be to your benefit along with any other related experience you can add. Also, Spring doesn't have quite as many applicants. I'm sure there are more programs offering Spring admssion, it's just a matter of finding out which ones. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.
  11. Congrats on the acceptance!! I noticed you applied to one other program, but is this your first choice? Waiting on one more, but if I don't get in then I'll definitely be attending NAU.
  12. For the UCF applicants out there, did you apply to start this Summer or Fall? Just curious I applied for Summer admission
  13. Congrats on your acceptance to Boulder! I've decided to be forever confused by that ridiculously pointless letter and just be happy with the acceptances I've received. Even if UCF doesn't pan out, then I'm still extremely happy with attending NAU.
  14. Thank you AudioEnvy. Getting the rejection was tough but definitely easier with a couple of acceptances under my belt. Good luck with UCF. Is that your top choice? It is now for me. We'll see though, we'll see... If there's one thing I've discovered throughout this whole process it's that the admissions people are a funny bunch. And thank you too WannabeSLP!
  15. Sorry to hear about Boulder I can't stop refreshing my email today (or yesterday) and with every passing second, I feel my chances of acceptance slipping out of my grasp. I'm not sure how they staggered acceptances/rejections, but it seemed like yesterday was all about acceptances. What's even more confusing for me is that letter they sent a month ago from the committee chair stating I was a "top applicant". I don't know how many people received that and were accepted, but I've been clinging to every ounce of hope I have because of that stupid letter. I will be pretty disappointed if I'm flat out rejected. I wouldn't have been, but that dang letter just had to be sent. Got my rejection about 2 minutes after I made this post. Heartbroken as well.
  16. Yes I'm wondering the same thing! I'm an "R", so I'm close to the end as well. I must be just as anxious as you are. This is my top choice (well, sorta). I've been accepted to schools in Flagstaff and St. Cloud, but getting into CU is pretty much the only way I can convince my fiance to move with me and get out of Florida. I'd also be happy with UCF; it think it's a great school, but that means staying in the same area I'm already in. To be honest, I can't stand living in or around Orlando. Boulder would be a dream.
  17. I received that email too. I assume you applied for Fall. I applied for Summer and they said by the end of March for us. I agree that end of April is wayyy late. Most of the applicants will have made decisions to other schools by then! But I think you're right in assuming they won't actually be that late. However, it will be pretty darn close to that April 15th deadline most other schools have. Good luck!
  18. Pangea, you almost gave me a heart attack. I thought you were talking about UCF lol!! Oh the dangers of switching a letter. Anywho, good luck with USF. I hope you hear back soon and I hope it's good news!!
  19. Have you heard of others receiving acceptances yet? If not, I wouldn't worry about not hearing back from then right now. I honestly wasn't expecting them to send out responses until early April. That's when the were sent last year and the Spring '12 applicants didn't hear back until late Nov/early Dec. And that was for starting early January!! I know that they're later than most schools, so I wouldn't fret.
  20. Yay for us 3-year people getting in and congrats on your acceptance!!!
  21. Chrysanthemum, I noticed you applied to ETSU. Have you not heard back from them as well? I saw acceptances posted on the results board early last week already, but there's hasn't been any mention of waitlists or rejections yet. Just curious if you know what's up.
  22. I don't think it's that important to go to a top notch school for a successful career in speech pathology. If I wanted to become an attorney or go into the corporate world, I'd sell my soul to pay for Harvard law or business. I think name and rank matters for some careers where there's a never ending ladder to climb before you reach the top. That's the beauty of this field (for me at least). So, to answer your question: definitely the second one. It would be nice to not have to pay off any loans once I graduated!
