artgarfunkel Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 (edited) Are there any philosophy departments that do interviews as a way of further narrowing down the applicant pool in the last rounds of admission? Which schools do this? Do many departments fly accepted students out for a visit and for recruitment? Edited January 13, 2012 by artgarfunkel
orangeMan Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I think it is customary to interview an applicant for a PhD program in the UK. A supervisor (as they are called - we call them advisors) wants to see if you are a good fit. You would be working with him or her for the next 3 - 4 years. You need to be able to get along.
roast beef Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 If you search for your prospective programs in the results survey, you can see if anyone did interviews in the last few years. (Though, unfortunately, you can't filter for interview results, as far as I can tell.) Of the places I'm applying, I think the only one that has interviewed in the recent past is Penn State.
magog Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 DePaul interviews and invites for on campus visits. Penn State interviews.
