  1. Could the person who posted the McGill acceptance provide any more information? Was it a personalized email and, if so, who did it come from? Congrats on getting in, seems like a really interesting program. edit: Would also be curious to know if you're Canadian.
  2. I think BU was in the mid-40s in the previous version.
  3. Yes—every student gets a full tuition waiver, plus subsidized health insurance and a stipend. Stipends differ based on how much you teach and whether you get one of the fellowships. More info here: http://philosophy.gsu.edu/graduate/admissions/assistantships/
  4. Thought I'd say hello, since I've been quietly reading the forums. I'm a recent graduate of GSU's MA program, and my interests are 19th century German philosophy, aesthetics, and political philosophy. I'm applying to 12 schools—pretty much the ones you would expect for someone who wrote a thesis on Hegel. I can also claim the first Northwestern wait list on the results page. It's nice to start out with not-bad news this time around. Edit: By the way, I'd be happy to answer any questions people might have about Georgia State. Last year, I had good conversations with a few people who were considering attending. Just send me a PM.
  5. Not sure about Oregon in particular, but many schools have these extra fields to accommodate non-philosophy programs that require two samples. My understanding is that you can safely leave one blank. edit: sorry, I see now that you say the system won't let you do that. Weird.
  6. I'm curious about this too, since I'm on the wait list and they didn't tell me how many people were on it.
  7. Anyone with a Johns Hopkins waitlist or offer want to share whether they plan to attend? (Not trying to be a waitlist nag; just trying to figure out whether I should visit.)
  8. You mean Boston College, not BU, right? (Assuming because of the recent post on TGC.)
  9. The Johns Hopkins waitlist is mine. I'm really excited; it would be an excellent fit for me. I didn't inquire, and I was as surprised as you about how early it came. Hopefully it turns into an offer!
  10. To respond to the original post: I think this is a great idea and I'd be happy to participate! I'm finishing up my MA at Georgia State; if anyone has questions about the program, please shoot me a PM.
  11. An incisive analysis. How much have you read? My guess is that someone who lists "not continental" as their AOI may be a bit too partisan to have made a decent effort at charitably interpreting Hegel.
  12. You probably know this, but there's a ton of good stuff on aesthetics in Culture and Value. My favorite LW line comes from that collection: "What's ragged should be left ragged."
  13. I've been lurking (with the account I made when I applied for the M.A. program I'm now finishing) but I'll get in on this! Kierkegaard made me realize I wanted to do philosophy, so he's been a constant influence. I've learned a lot from late Wittgenstein (I especially admire his method). And these days my views are probably closest to Hegel's.
  14. Ah, good catch. Maybe it is for the spring, although it seems a little late for such a notification. Or maybe, as some people on whogotin are speculating, it's fake; there aren't any other UNC acceptances yet...
  15. I applied to Stony Brook and haven't heard. The results survey only shows one acceptance this season, from UNC, so don't get worried yet!
