Thanks everyone for sharing your stories. It is conforting to know you are not alone.

I am wondering if any of you have heard anything yet?

I have not heard anything. I am not freaking out (too much anyway) yet because I do not expect to hear anything from the bulk of the programs for another couple of weeks. One program did tell me that acceptances would go out the first week of February. So is the 1st week of February this week or next week? In any case I should have some idea with at leat one program by the end of next week (yikes!!)

I got my first acceptance today!!!! It was good timing too because I was starting to freak out. Last night I even had a nightmare that I had missed getting into the program (the one I was accepted into) by one point. Don't ask me what the whole point thing was about, it was a dream.

Anyways I am sooooooo excited. I can finally relax and wait for the rest of the results. Seriously, I have been waiting for this moment for two years now and in some ways for my entire life. I can't tell you how great it felt to have the progam director tell me the committee was very impressed with my application. Sweet sweet music to my ears.

I am hoping the best for all of you!!!!

I applied to seven schools last year and got seven rejections. This year I took it up a notch and applied to twelve. So far I've heard back from three--two acceptances and a waitlist. All three are schools that rejected me a year ago, so it seems it definitely is possible to turn things around.

Oh, and to settle another potential worry, the first school that accepted me was the one that received an SOP with a nasty error in it.

Best of luck to the rest of you!

Congratulations -- that's fantastic news! I have a friend who just got final results of an unsuccessful round this year, but won't be giving up.It's always good to hear about people who made it work.

This is also my round 2. My first set of applications was 2 years ago, in which I had a relatively lackluster GPA/GRE/Writing Sample to put forth so I'm really not surprised that I only got accepted to MA programs. However, after doing this past year and a half of grad work, I think it has really helped me become a much better candidate. That being said, I have yet to receive any acceptance/rejections and will continue to bury myself in my thesis work till I hear from somewhere. I don't know if my heart can take a round 3, but you never know!

With my 5th and final rejection notice today, it looks like I'll be a 2nd time around'r. I just stumbled upon this post and although it's inspiring,

this really hurts right now. Thanks for the hope guys. Here's to 2013!!

This is round 2 for me as well. I re-applied this year just to the school. I really want to go to for my PhD in history and a masters program in library science. I already have a MA in history but it's a long shot with lower GPA/GRE scores. I just got into the library science program. Good luck to everyone!

Year two for me as well.

I feel like my application is much stronger... which makes no acceptances so far that much more terrifying....

I'm finishing up my second round of applications as well, with a much better result this round :)

I made a lot of mistakes in my first round; never contacting POIs, never even following up to see if my applications were complete, an unfocused SOP and terrible GRE scores. Strangely, I still received several wait lists and one unfunded MA offer from my top PhD program. Instead, I moved 10,000 miles away.

Now I'm applying again with more focus and have had nearly all good news thus far. If my luck runs out here and I don't receive an offer from my final programs I'm still very excited with the offers I have.
