Phone Interview before submitting app?

Does anyone know if this is common? One of the schools I am applying to for my MA encourages applicants to get in touch with the program to arrange an interview, which I did. I assumed they would get in touch with me after I submitted my app because the deadline is Feb 15.. instead, I was scheduled a telephone interview for this week! Has this happened to anyone else before and what kind of questions do you think I'll be asked? I've literally submitted nothing yet, so I'm not exactly sure how this will go.... Thanks!

I had a very brief phone call with a professor before I submitted my application. It gave me a lot of perspective and other information not on the wensite, which helped me in writing my application.

On a completely unrelated note, when I had the actual interview a few days back, I screwed up big time and went into a shell.
