  1. While I didn't go to USF, I did consider it briefly for undergrad (I got in but didn't attend). I don't know anything about the program to which you refer, but I can answer your questions about the religious affiliation and academic quality. To clarify, USF is a Jesuit institution.. while it is Catholic, the Jesuits are (in my opinion) the most liberal of them. There are requirements for religious classes for the undergrad core, but I don't think there is for grad school. People on the campus don't go to USF because it is Jesuit. There are a lot of local people on the campus, so as a result there is a vast mix of religions and cultures among the student body. I had a good friend who used to be on faculty in the School of Nursing (undergrad and grad both), so again I can't speak about the academic quality for your program.. but from what I understand, the academic quality of the student body in general has definitely declined in recent years. To clarify: the professors are top notch, but the students are not. I'm sure you would have no issues getting an internship and relevant work experience (side note though- public transportation to the south bay from SF isn't very good, you would need a car) as a USF student. My personal opinion on USF would be if you have to pay out of pocket for it, I would think carefully about it before committing.
  2. Thanks for the feedback. I've been thinking the same thing, that it may be too narrow a degree. Coupled with the fact it doesn't seem incredibly reputable/well-connected outside the NY area, I may forgo applying for now..
  3. Can anyone give me opinions/feedback on Bank Street's Museum Education programs? Not the teacher's certification, just the MS in Museum Education. It sounds like a strong program, and I wonder why I never hear more about it. Apparently it's well respected in New York and around, but as a west coaster I hear very little about it and would like to know more about its general reputation outside of the tri-state area. I don't even really see that much mention about it here on grad cafe... hmm. Much thanks in advance!
  4. I know there are mixed reviews on it, but I liked the Princeton Review's GRE prep book (the newest one for 2012). It was annoying there were only 2 full practice tests in it, but the explanations are really good. The tone isn't scholarly at all, it's easy to read but gets the point across. I found the problems (in verbal and math) to be more difficult than on the actual GRE itself... for me though this was a good thing!
  5. Thanks! I guess I will find out soon too, applying for this fall as well.
  6. Okay, so I posted this in the GRE topics before I realized there was a whole section on gradcafe devoted to art history! My question: for people who have applied/have gotten in/currently go to Museum Studies MA programs, what did your GRE scores look like? I just took mine today, and I'm wondering if they are anywhere on par for programs such as NYU and Columbia. I'm assuming math will not be as important for Museum Studies, but what would a "good" verbal score be? Thanks!!
  7. Can anyone speak to the kinds of GRE scores one might need to get into grad school for an MA in Museum Studies? Specifically NYU or Columbia if possible? I just took the GRE today and I'm wondering if my verbal score is adjacent to others who have gotten in in the past.... Thanks!!
  8. I asked things that were not on the website... such as how many people are in the program, how many apply, how many matriculate every year, etc. I also asked things that were more specific to the program's curriculum. For instance this one has a large internship component so I asked where people intern, how is it supervised, etc. As long as you have at least a few questions you'll be fine!
  9. Does anyone know if this is common? One of the schools I am applying to for my MA encourages applicants to get in touch with the program to arrange an interview, which I did. I assumed they would get in touch with me after I submitted my app because the deadline is Feb 15.. instead, I was scheduled a telephone interview for this week! Has this happened to anyone else before and what kind of questions do you think I'll be asked? I've literally submitted nothing yet, so I'm not exactly sure how this will go.... Thanks!
