I remember when we were all listing the schools we applied to, quite a few had UCSB listed, myself included. Now, we know that one person was accepted last week, but I'm wondering if anybody else has any news. It seems strange that just one person on this whole board got accepted (when so many of us applied). Maybe that's a problem of biased/small sample size, but I'm still left with the (possibly too) optimistic belief that there is going to be another round. Anybody else have any thoughts on the matter?

I've been wondering the same thing. To reassure myself, I'm going with since that person was notified by phone, it might have been an eager POI getting a head start on the notification. I would assume that means it's okay if we haven't heard yet...

I applied there, but my diversity statement was not at its best, so I'm not expecting an acceptance. I bet there are still more letters going out, though.

I am also wondering the same about Berkeley... it seems that when notifications all come by "uniform/standardized e-mail" - all the acceptances, rejections and WLs go out around the same time.. but then when acceptances happen by phone call or personal e-mail, things get a bit out of whack. However, it does seem weird to me that with so many of us applying to Berkeley, there would be a few automated WL e-mails, then one personalized e-mail for an acceptance, but then suddenly nothing else. Perhaps that one acceptance was it though. But yes, I'm wondering the same if there are a few waves or committees where the applications were broken up into areas of interest with separate committees? Or there really only was 1 acceptance to Cal out of all of us this time around. One way to further be obsessive is to ask the people who were WL at Berkeley what their interests were and if they were about political sociology/org theory/social movements, or if the WL group's interests were random. This might give us a clue as to if they are admitting/making decisions in waves by interest/areas of study, or if they have more or less finished with everything.

I received an email with an official acceptance letter from UCSB today. I was the one who reported the phone call. Offered 5 years of funding.

The visit day is March 9th-10th. It seems you receive 2 emails from the schools. One from the sociology department saying that they have recommended you for admission, and then another from the graduate school which is when you are officially admitted (happened for both Texas and UCSB).

So, there seems to be another post for a ucsb acceptance. I'm just wondering if it is the same person who got the call earlier (but just recieved the email now) or if it's a new acceptance. I'm getting a little anxious about this. Thoughts, anyone?

I applied to UCSB and haven't heard anything heads or tails. So add one to the pile of "not hearing anything". Maybe our lucky friends who have been offered admissions are part of a first tier list. It's common for schools to have unofficial rounds of acceptance, bringing in people bit by bit as they're accepted. No need to give up just yet.

I didn't post in the results survey, but I was accepted into UCSB with funding. I got a call last Monday, January 23rd. But I wouldn't lose hope just yet if you haven't heard since it seems people are still getting phone calls this week.

From the Graduate Program Assistant:

"Applicants should be receiving notice by the Graduate Division in the next two weeks."

To those accepted at UCSB -- Is anyone planning on going to the visit? I'm debating since I'd have to fly from Kansas City, and UCSB isn't covering much of the expense.

Any idea if all of the acceptances have gone out? It looks like acceptance and rejection letters have been sent out, but I haven't heard anything. Anyone else out there waiting on news from UCSB? I'm not willing to venture to guess that this is a good sign or a bad sign, just trying not to dwell on it too much.
