Does anybody have any insight into what the culture of the program at Wisconsin is like now that they have switched to smaller cohorts/guaranteed funding? I realize that in the past Wisconsin has been characterized as overly competitive since funding was not guaranteed. If they had not made the change, I would be wary of attending their program. However, since the change was recently instituted in the Fall of 2011, I'm not sure what to expect if I did enroll. Anybody have any insight or ideas about what to expect?

I can say that it will cost you at least 1500/month to live comfortably in downtown Madison. Madison offers about 15000/year not including scholarships/fellowships etc. So, you will need some more funding.

1500/month is assuming you live by yourself and eat well. If you can, don't bring a car. Good parking is at least 80/month plus parking fees for campus and gas.
