erobson Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Yep. I'm looking forward to visiting San Diego (never been), but it's off to NYC for a week first. If anyone else will be at UCSD, see you there!
Jwnich1 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Both. Awesome, it's great to know there will be some friendly faces, and others making the same trip. There's a chance I'll be flying directly to Madison from London, so look out for the jet lagged dude.

ILYuna Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 UC Berkeley is March 18-19 Is this true? I thought no one has been accepted into Berkeley yet? I've been hoping that I can combine Berkeley and UCSD visit for a fabulous week in California - oh well

CafeAuLait12 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Anyone visiting UT-Austin, Madison, or Vandy? I will be at those visits and would love to see some familiar "faces"!

brent09 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 ^ I'm leading toward visiting Madison, still trying to decide. If I do, I look forward to meeting both of ya'!

Let me know if you do. We should all find time to have a gradcafe beer or two after the stress of this cycle! Edited February 21, 2012 by Jwnich1
PickMe! Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Anyone going to MIT or Columbia's? I'll be at Columbia if I can get the time off. Not digging the Tues-Thurs format...

I will be visiting Madison as well. I have not been the most active on this forum, but I look forward to meeting you all!

whirlibird Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Dude, I'm so jealous of all you guys! MAN! I wanna go and meet my gradcafe peeps...
PickMe! Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Princeton is March 26-7, which uncomfortably overlaps with Columbia (3/27-9). I guess they can pull it off when they're so close to each other.
saltlakecity2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Is anyone else going to both UCSD and UCLA? I was advised to use ground transportation to go from UCSD to UCLA given that they're so close.

I'd also recommend driving. Parts of the drive are quite beautiful, but it can't take forever due to traffic. I hope you enjoy your trip!

The drive is very beautiful but if you're from out of town and don't have a car I suggest taking the Amtrak Surfliner. The train runs right along the coast, is very comfortable, and gets you from one city to the other in less than 3 hours. I'm pretty sure both of those schools have campus shuttles (or something similar) that run from campus and the station and vise versa.

I am from out of town and will not have a car during the visit, so the train sounds like a great option. I appreciate the tip!
puddle Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Awesome - thank you both. I am from out of town and will not have a car during the visit, so the train sounds like a great option. I appreciate the tip! UCLA does not really have a great shuttle option from the Amtrak station (downtown) into Westwood. You pretty much go Amtrak --> metro (yes, there is a metro) --> bus down Wilshire and then walk from Wilshire up through Westwood (suggestion: pack light... this can be a hot walk with a heavy bag). This is much less complicated than it sounds. Good luck!
