Ironheel!! Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I just received notice that my paper was accepted to a conference. Should I email the DGS a new CV? I have only heard from one school (a Vandy reject!) but have 7 more applications pending. Anyone know what the protocol is in this situation? Thanks!
RWBG Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 It might be a bit late. Even if schools haven't released offers, I think most have already met. But you can e-mail them and see what happens; sometimes they'll update it for you.

I doubt one paper presentation would make any difference, but it might serve as a nice reminder that you exist, make them take another look at your file. Couldn't hurt.

I'm with brent09, it's certainly not going to have any NEGATIVE impact, so you might as well shoot them an email. I mean, why not?
balderdash Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 (I'd put the change in the email itself and not just on the CV.)
kolja00 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I emailed Berkeley two weeks ago with an update. No one ever got back to me :/ lol

Ironheel!!, I would agree with what others have written here. I think that RWGB is right, and that most committees have already met, so there seems but a small chance that the change would really matter to the department. That said, there seems to be no harm in e-mailing the DGS. More importantly - congratulations!
Ironheel!! Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 Thanks for the input everyone. I went ahead and sent the updated version out, I know that 2 of the schools I applied (brandeis and Temple) are meeting next week(s) (emailed confirmation from DGS if anyone is also waiting on those schools), and other schools such as Umass and Uconn I have heard zippo from despite the Umass rejections. If im waitlisted, maybe they'll look favorably on it. Who the hell knows at this point!
Hotspur Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I did a similar thing for my applications and only got responses from a few of the polisci admissions departments. If you don't get a response, pick a specific person from the department's staff list to email, who seems like they are in the best position to help (like the graduate registrar, for example). Give them a very friendly, apologetic email with the update, saying you weren't sure if they were the appropriate person, if the update had gotten through, knowing it's a busy time, etc., and ask if they can add it to your application. I always feel that if you give a friendly request to a specific person, they are usually willing to help if they can, or will find the person who will. Every one of these people got back to me quickly saying they had added it to my file and some even volunteered information about when decisions were being made (although I didn't ask in the email). Good luck!
