I'm trying to find others who have applied to the UNC-CH PhD program in English and Comparative Literature. I've seen one acceptance and a few wait listed on the Results Survey. Email inquiry only gave me a generic response that decisions are being made every day, and I'll receive an email.

I applied to UNC Comp Lit PhD for F12 and have received no response as yet, though I too noticed the sporadic results on the board. Check out this thread on the English program there: Not sure whether the number of applicants they have admitted is only for English concentrations, and if admissions for Comp Lit concentrations are forthcoming, or if the number they admitted is the total entering cohort.

On a related note, what about UT Austin's Comp Lit waitlists? I saw 4 go up last Thursday, but no admissions or rejections. I have an application there too and haven't received any notification.

I wonder if this means they aren't done notifying the English admits?

I believe that they typically accept on a somewhat rolling basis (in other words, it's not over 'til it's over). I'm one of the admits this year, but I'm still waiting on official information from the GSAS. So, it sounds like it's likely not over yet!

I work at Chapel Hill-- Comp Lit was allowed to accept 6 for a target cohort of 3-4.

hazelbite, is this 6 in addition to the 12 accepted to the English concentration? Or did UNC accept 12 total applicants between Eng. and Comp. Lit.?

(I get the 12 admits from the thread I posted, containing the email from Thrailkill.)

Yes, the 6 was just for comp lit. The ENGL and CMPL departments just merged 2 years ago; the ad comms still meet separately.

Hey all, I'm one of the wait-listers for English. My letter says they accepted 5% (20) and wait-listed 3% (12). My guess is that the 12 admits is the target cohort number - eeps!

That sounds about right. When I talked to Professor Thrailkill, she said that they were aiming for a cohort of 12. Are the acceptees here going to the visit weekend? I haven't gotten official details about it yet, but I'm really interested in the program and am definitely planning on going!

I'm one of the comp lit admits. I was surprised I got in as I'm more film studies than traditional comp lit, but apparently the department just hired a new film person. I won't be able to go to visit weekend, sadly - Michigan's Screen Arts and Cultures interviews are the same time.

I am also waiting on UNC and UT for comp lit; both have already posted acceptances and waitlisters, so I imagine that they are done.

It seems that schools are very principled about waiting until March to send out rejections; for whatever reason, March is rejection month, and I expect to receive both of mine then (and not a day sooner, although, apparently, the schools have already made their decisions).

starlajane, how did you find out UT has sent its Comp Lit acceptances? I saw waitlists on the results board, and acceptances for English, but nothing other than waitlists for Comp Lit.

Maybe schools string along their rejects until March in case their acceptances reject them, so they can keep some kind of entering class.
