Is your status changed online?

Nope; status stayed the same.

Congrats to you, raychelaych! There's definitely a strong possibility I'll be running into you in the Fall ;) Many reasons I am leaning towards Berkeley at the moment, but I haven't completely discounted Michigan or some of the other programs I'm still waiting to hear from.

For anyone who cares, because I surely would have enjoyed some frame of reference from years' past:

UCLA grad with B.A. in English/Creative Writing; 3.6 GPA, Departmental and College Honors; GRE scores were pretty average from what I recall, but I did have a perfect Analytical Writing score; strong LORs and SOPs; 6 years of volunteer experience with various youth populations, primarily in mentorship/educational settings; 2 years of work experience in community-based mentorship, where I designed, implemented and managed a countywide mentoring children of prisoners program.

Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting to hear back! :)

Also, would anyone mind sharing his/her thoughts on WHY Berkeley is a top choice?? I actually attended Cal as an undergrad, and I absolutely loved my experience there. I'm currently deciding between Berkeley and Columbia, and any input would be really helpful. Thank you!!

Thanks for sharing your stats briefinterviews. It definitely helps to see what kind of students they are accepting. If anyone else feels like sharing, please do. It's very helpful.

Congrats JM12! Berkeley is my top choice because I love the culture, learning atmosphere, professors, and other students who go there. I was also an undergrad at Cal, and having moved around a lot growing up, it's the first place I truly felt at home. Also, I plan on staying in the Bay Area and want to continue working in Oakland, where there are a lot of awesome non-profits. :)

I feel a little weird putting all the numbers on the internet, but basically I had a GPA a little higher than the median, high writing/ verbal GRE, lower quant GRE. Undergrad in psychology from a moderately high ranked liberal arts college. I had 4 LoR - two strong letters from professors who know me well, two from supervisors. I spent a lot of time on my application essays, which I made longer than the cut off, and I was sure to include a lot of suggestions from Melanie that I got when I met with her (highlight my interest in child development, Spanish-speaking populations, the purposeful switch from psych to social work, interest in poverty as a risk factor, etc.).

I will say what I was most concerned about was experience - I only graduated from undergrad in 2010. I have one year as an Americorps volunteer/ intervention specialist in an elementary school doing various social and academic interventions (anti-bullying curriculum, small groups, etc), and this year I am working as a behavioral therapist for children with autism. I highlighted other past experiences as well, such as being an RA in undergrad, working in a deaf preschool, and volunteer work. I also highlighted significant academic experiences, such as research, a class in poverty and child development that affected me strongly, and my undergrad thesis (prejudice reduction in children). So for all of you fretting on not having multiple years of being a case worker, I still got in!

Something Melanie said that stuck with me - the people reading are professors, so at the very least, academics are appreciated by them from the perspective of who they want to have as a student. I really tried to highlight why I would be a passionate, committed student, as well as future professional.

Good luck everyone!

For all of those CMH applicants out there, I emailed the admissions office today to ask if they had released the CMH decisions yet. Once I hear back, I'll pst what I got for all of us waiting and waiting. Anyone in that concentration heard back yet?

And did I read correctly that Melanie Greene is emailing decisions but the app website isn't updating??

Lologogo - thanks for emailing about when the CMH applicants will hear. I was about to email as well, but I will just wait and see what they tell you. :)

Just a warning- it took me 3 days to hear back from them after I emailed asking for a CFS decision date (which they only gave me a vague answer anyway!). I hope you have better luck than I do!

If I get into Berkeley I'm suggesting a pre-grad-school-start-post-application-process-let's-have-fun-sharing-our-"fun"-admissions-processes night! Lol

Thank you!! Ok, details.

I found out by email from Melanie Green at 12.12pm. My status on the grad app did not change, it still says "submitted".

Berkeley undergrad, majoring in Sociology and Media Studies. 3.76 overall GPA. GREs - Verbal - bit below average, Math - really crappy, Writing - 4.5. Graduated in 2010. Applied for 2011 with 7 months of combined full-time experience and was waitlisted. Applied this year with more experience.

I think that's all I can type right now. Still kind of freaking out. Will update later with more details on experience. Good luck to everyone still waiting!!!

*In-state applicant!

Have there been absolutely no out-of-state admits so far? Getting pretty nervous that all of the acceptances will go to in-staters (congrats to all of you though!)

I have the same worry!

I have the same worry!

Same worry here too! I know they give preference to in-staters; maybe it's just that their acceptances were on the top of pile and we'll be hearing soon? Trying to stay optimistic!!
