Rumors from Princeton, anyone?

Paul DiMaggio e-mailed me and said he didn't want to work with you.

I didn't know Paul DiMaggio was at Princeton.

I led class discussion on his Cultural Capital and School Success article, and pointed out how weird it was that, although women did better academically than men, he said this was a good thing because it makes them "eligible partners" for successful men. Excellent article all around, but I was looking for the date, expecting to see 1955 or something. Published in 1982. I got props from my prof for noticing - he said DiMaggio is known for being more conservative than most sociologists. :)

Hm. Maybe that's why I like him. Not that I am a conservative, I'm actually quite liberal. But being a relatively conservative sociologist still makes you a quasi-socialist in contrast to the general population.

Except, of course, for actual conservative sociologists like Mathieu Deflem.
