Guest oldname12 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Hello, I have confirmed my attendance at a PhD program in Clinical Psych, and I am wondering if anyone has any good questions to ask my advisor and current students at this point? I did have a lot of my initial questions answered on the interview day, but I would just like other suggestions now because I would like to be as prepared as an incoming student can be for the fall. Just to give you a little background, most of the questions I asked my advisor on the interview day were questions relating directly to his research and what he is currently studying, and most of my questions for his students were about student life and their relationships with the advisor. I have not gotten too far into questions about what my specific day-to-day responsibilities in the lab and the program will be, but I am not exactly sure what questions to ask to get good answers. Any help is appreciated!
coonskee Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 You can ask your PI what kind of reading you should do in order to prepare to enter the lab and ask other PhD students what their day-to-days look like (follow up with whether you can expect the same), for example. You can also ask the students and PI about what starting will look like - will you be paired with someone for a training period, will you be looking for a thesis project right away or helping others with their stuff until you get a feel for things, etc. Congrats on your acceptance!
ktel Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Definitely ask your PI and lab mates to send papers your way. Best way to prepare
